Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Intensive, Comprehensive Outpatient Care

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at Windmoor Healthcare is an outpatient level of care that offers access to a secure, structured environment that enables the patient to return home at night and maintain important family relationships. The program is five days a week and is designed for patients who require an comprehensive outpatient level of care. The patient who is most appropriate for this level of care may be experiencing problems at work, school, with family relationships or in social situations due to their mental health symptoms or co-occurring mental health/substance use disorder.

Partial Hospitalization Program may be the right next step in the transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment and may sometimes be the recommended treatment instead of inpatient care. Windmoor Healthcare offers specialized programming based on the patient’s treatment needs.

Treatment Components

PHP utilizes psychoeducational and psychotherapy processing groups to provide skill-based knowledge for the patients to create change in their lives by understanding the psychiatric diagnosis, the impact of life stressors, and learning to identify triggers and coping mechanisms for a successful, healthy lifestyle. Many of our patients have felt helpless, hopeless and have had thoughts of suicide, which prompted them to seek treatment.

Our multidisciplinary staff use several individualized treatment modalities, to assist individuals in their mental health recovery and through coping with depression and anxiety, developing action plans, and building coping skills so patients can improve their self-awareness, self-expression and problem solving.

PHP utilizes multiple treatment approaches and skills:

  • We teach skills that help people understand the link between their thoughts and emotions and to develop alternate ways of thinking and behaving to improve functioning and decrease stress.
  • Our therapy provides clients with therapeutic skills to manage painful emotions through the use of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • We provide a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach for the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress, addictions, borderline personality disorder, and other psychological issues.
